Yesterdays menu was pho with these ‘fruits of the ocean’ for noodles. High in protein and trace minerals. Can be substitute for pasta, spaghetti & noodles, cook for 20 mins in boiling water until tender or dry fully and store as you would your favourite carby go to’s! No post dinner slump for me….ready for another swim today (and the conditions look cracking!!).

I (Beckie) am a great believer that things happen I (Beckie) am a great believer that things happen in their own/right time, the story of the tortoise and the hare and trusting the process….well it’s just over our year anniversary @trailing_pebbles clinic, #chagford has finally had the external signage put up! And damn it looks good !

I thought when we got the keys for the clinic this time last year, it would be a lovely process to decorate the inside myself. Well the lesson learned was; when I reach the end of my skill set, get someone else in! Focus on what I’m good at: treating & teaching and thereafter….outsource! It’s fair to say that I will NOT be doing any further decorating myself 🤣🤣

🪜A big thanks to the amazing sign writer @joshjmonk
🖌For the external decorating ‘Gentleman Joe’ (yet to be on Instagram)
🪣 @fantyfoo & @hazeypics for the family labour of love, teaching me how to decorate and spending that day helping with the interior (fuelled with jam 🍩 ). I still owe you a meal, I haven’t forgotten!
👩🏻‍🎨 @artisanchagford for being the best building share we could ever wish for. Thank for our chair in your shop to pass time between patients and for keeping us entertained and caffeinated 🙏🏽🙏🏽
👩🏽‍💻Giusi for doing all the background/computer work, designing and setting up, whilst also working in the clinic 😍

Flowers are often use in Chinese herbal medicine to address our emotions. Flowers are light, they grow closer to the sky, they are delicate and ethereal but resilient. Like our Spirit. 🌹❤️

👉🏼In addition to spending time taking a thorough consultation about all aspects of your health, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers a wide range of options that can be tailored to suit your TCM diagnosis.

👉🏼TCM is not just acupuncture or Chinese herbs; it is made of five branches:

☯️	Acupuncture & moxibustion (the herbs that get burnt over acupoints and smell a bit like pot 😜🤭)

☯️ Chinese herbal medicine (this one got some bad rep at some point… and no we don’t use any animal products 🚫🐅)

☯️ Bodywork (Tuina/ Chinese medical massage, guasha/ scraping technique and cupping therapy 💆🏼‍♀️)

☯️ Chinese nutrition (using food as medicine according to TCM 🍱🍆🍓🥑🥔🌽)

☯️ Movement (Qi gong, taiji and exercises practices 🙆🏻🏋🏽‍♀️)

😍As part of your treatment then, we combine modalities and not just give you acupuncture 🥰)

🤜👊🏽 Next we will share a bit more about the conditions that we are currently treating and the ones we that we have successfully treated…🤜👊🏽

Tomorrow morning is summer solstice for those of u Tomorrow morning is summer solstice for those of us in the northern hemisphere. The time of the year where the earth is the most tilted towards the sun and with that comes plenty of daylight and the building up of heat! 🌡🔥🥵

This is the most yang time of the year and how to make the most of it? 👇🏼

☀️ In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), summer is the time of the Heart and so it is particularly important to look after emotional well-being and nourish relationships ❤️🥰🤗

☀️ If you are feeling a bit stuck and unable to connect to this outward movement of energy, think of how you can bring some joy and laughter into your life. In TCM each season is associated with a sound and laughter is the sound of Summer! 😄

☀️ Wake a little earlier, make the most of the morning sun and exercise before the temperature rises. This is the only time of the year when it is ok to stay up a little later… and if life allows, get that siesta! 😉

☀️ Summer a great time to engage in outdoor leisure, making the most of the good weather… think cooling activities like swimming, walking in the woods or trekking in the mountains… if none of those is available, a cool shower/bath will do too! 🏊‍♀️🥾💦

☀️ When it comes to food, go for lighter meals. Lessen the use of oils and spices. Choose light stir frying and steaming of veggies 🥗

☀️ Get plenty of water! As it is the most yang time of the year, you want to make sure you replenish your yin with water and moistening food 🥒🍓🥬🍉

☀️ This might sound strange but actually this is a good time of the year to start treating health issues that you experience in the autumn and winter. As summer is the time where the yang is at its peak (and therefore your vitality), having acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage etc can help you strengthen your immune system and general resilience for the months to come! 💪🏼

There is so much to say about seasonal living and summer… but for now… make sure you make time for love, joy, creativity and fun… happy summer! ❤️❤️❤️

There are many reasons why the pill is bad news. T There are many reasons why the pill is bad news. This is what it gave me (Giusi): a goitre and feeling depressed.

A goitre is swelling of the thyroid. I remember looking at pictures and spotting the swollen right side of my neck straight way. Coupled with being in my teens and the effect the pill had on my moods: a combo made in hell🙈

The swelling started just under 2 years of being on the pill. Doctors openly admitted it it was not a coincidence. I had to say goodbye to half of my thyroid 😔

💊The birth control pill is not all bad of course. At some point it was revolutionary in improving women’s quality of life. It introduced a choice about contraception and allowed women to have careers for example.

💊It’s still a life quality changer for some women who suffer from extreme painful conditions such as endometriosis or for the relief of skin conditions such as hormonal acne. Having said that, it never ever addresses the cause of whatever issue you are experiencing.

🩸 If you are on the pill you are not having a proper bleed either. What you have is a withdrawal bleed (more on that later).

Some of the other reasons you might want to reconsider using the oral birth control pill:

‼️ its use is associated with increased risk of insulin resistance, high blood pressure, heart attack stroke and breaks cancer among others

‼️ its side effects are endless including: mood changes such as anxiety and depression, lower libido, vaginal dryness, dry skin, vitamins depletion, an increased chance of blood clotting etc

‼️ if you are want a baby at any time, think of stopping sooner rather than later as the you are likely to develop what it is called ‘post birth control syndrome’ (more on that another time) where fertility becomes a challenge

👉🏼Many women actually take the pill for symptoms management rather than contraception. Chinese medicine has so much to offer for things like painful periods, boosting natural fertility and hormonal balance without side effects 🤍

Drop us a message to book a free 15min call to discuss how we can help you.

We would also love to hear your experiences with the pill…even if you love it! 😉
What's on the beach, doesn't always look good but What's on the beach, doesn't always look good but you can safely eat? And it has more nutrients that most vegetable? You got it... seaweed! 🌿🌊

💚 Last week we went on a fun seaweed foraging workshop with Vix @familyforagingkitchen

💚 It was the perfect day... check out that sunshine... not always the case in the UK! 🤩

💚 This is our second foraging day with Vix. We love her down to earth attitude, practical knowledge and the fact that she always feeds us delicious food at the end!😋

💚 Seaweeds have always been part of asian cuisine and what super food they are... packed with nutrients and vitamins.

💚 In Chinese herbal medicine we use seaweeds (kelp and sargassum) for conditions like breast lumps, goiter, edema and nodules.

💚 The second picture is of "sea spaghetti" seaweed: you just need a handful as way more filling than pasta but with way more proteins. You cook them the same way as spaghetti too, add your favourite sauce... and eat away guilt free! 🍝

💚 The best thing? They are all safe.. they might not all taste good but they will not poison/ kill you!

So... next time you are at the beach... have a go! Make sure you leave at least 1/3 for sustainability.

There are plenty of books/ info out there to help you identify and cook/ eat seaweed or go to a foraging workshop...it's so much fun!
